Deaths from Israel assault on Tehran’s prison amounts to seventy-nine

(MENAFN) The death toll from a recent Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison in Tehran has risen to 79, according to the semi-official news agency.

Iranian judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir told the news organization that the victims included visiting family members, prison staff, inmates, and residents of nearby buildings. Several others were wounded in what he described as a "criminal" attack, though exact injury figures were not provided.

Jahangir also reported that a total of 935 Iranians were killed during Israeli strikes across Iran from June 13 to 24, including 38 children and 132 women.

The Israeli airstrikes began on June 13, targeting various nuclear and military sites in Iran, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. Iran retaliated with multiple missile and drone attacks on Israel.

After 12 days of conflict, a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was reached on June 24.
